| • Did Constantine rewrite, or even make up, the Bible, as well as Jesus? |
|
Constantine ruled the Roman Empire as Emperor from 306 to 337 and adopted the Christian religion as the religion of Rome, before this time there was an absence of writings about Jesus. The entire bible seems to have been rewritten, changed, and or introduced at this time.
A lot of Christian religous writings seem to have been written several hundred years after the supposed birth of Christ... this was ironically during Constitine's rule.
How much of the original religion was changed during the rule of Constantine?

| • OPinons on the issue with this powerbook G3? |
|
I bought a PowerBook G3 (Wall street II) with 266 mHz, it had 4GB i switched it with a 40GB and upgraded memory to 256MB. When I tried to start the computer a floppy disk with a "?" appeared. I did some research and found out the problem most of the time is the absence of a OS. I then ordered Mac OS 10.2. (Jaguar) but then after my cd-drive recognized the disk and the white apple logo appeared the screen dimmed dramatically. Barley visible and my mouse would not work. I then ordered Mac OS 9.0 and 9.2.1. I put the disk in and It started to install and the screen looked fine but then after maybe 3 minutes into the installation it stopped and a low battery sign appeared in my top right corner and then the power button blinked on and off. The Rechargeable battery was inserted the whole time. Then I took out the rechargeable battery to the bottom left of my Wall street and tried to turn on the computer. It got up to the same point (with the stopping at installation) but this time the battery sign had a big "X" on it and the power button blinked again. Is a battery died when only one of the four lights appear when i try to recharge. Would this mean that the rechargeable battery cant hold a charge and should be replaced? Or is it possible the Charger Board has a problem chargering? will the standard ac adapter charge my powerbook? and should just plugging the AC adapter in allow the installation to work? I want to get the G3 to work and any information or links to this problem would be much appreciated.

| • In Your Opinion, Should I Go Into Work Tomorrow Or Not? |
|
I'm in a small dilemma, but as I have no experience in this whatsoever, I will ask others who probably do.
I just got a job. My first job ever. I got the call on New Years Eve and started officially this past Saturday. The problem is, since attending the New Years Eve party I went to, I have developed a cold. Colds are usually quick to leave me, so I shrugged it off. I've worked everyday since then for 6 hours and have done my best to tough it out. It is now about to be Wednesday and the cold feels like its gotten worse. My joints are aching, my back hurts, my cough is severe, and its difficult to breathe. The only reason I can assume it has lasted this long is because I have failed to be resting much since I got the job.
My mother was the one who first urged me that I should not tell my boss about the illness. It would have been hard for the boss to tell seeing as shes not there most of the time. However, it seems I have managed to infect her as well. She mentioned she wasn't feeling well but gave no implication that she suspected me. Now if I confess to her that I am ill and cannot come into work the next day, she may end up upset that I didn't tell her in the first place. Which I probably should have, but I knew it was extremely bad to miss work on the first week. Either way she seems like a easy going, understanding boss. She lets me listen to my iPod, play around on my laptop, etc since most of the time theres no customers anyway.
YET there is an agreement on my employee handbook that insists I give early notification of my absences. And in addition, I'm sort of the only one that works there --- but she drops in once a day for like 2 or 3 hours. So I would have to tell her now. However, I will be extremely pissed if I call her now, and tomorrow I wake up feeling perfectly fine.
What would be the best course of action in this situation?

| • My grandmother....................? |
|
passed away and I have been leaving flowers at her grave every month. Now it is cold and I can not bring flowers anymore. There is already a grave blanket down and I have left a christmas wreath. What else can I do to decorate her grave, etc...?
I like to go every month and I would like to leave something. I know I don't have to leave something, but my Grandmother would always offer food, hospitality, etc whenever I came to see her and in some strange way I feel I should do the same in her absence. It comforts me.

| • When Martin Brodeur makes his return to the Devils, what will happen to Kevin Weekes? |
|
Marty Brodeur has been out of the New Jersey Devils lineup since November and is scheduled to return within the next 2 months. With the outstanding play we have seen from Scott Clemmenson which has resulted in Clemmenson taking the number 1 spot from Weekes in Brodeur's absence, do you think that the Devils will send Weekes to the AHL when Brodeur returns?

| • Does absence make the heart grow fonder? |
|
I dated a girl for a couple weeks and due to outside reasons I wasn't my normal, comfortable, funny self and caused her to lose attraction to me. I probably won't have any contact with her again for several weeks or even months. I'll probably be the last thing on her mind for the next few weeks but do you think time will cause her to forget her first impression of me should we meet again (assuming I am myself when she sees me again).

| • can some one help me in english mostly poetry? |
|
anything will help
1. In “maggie and milly and mollie and may,” one girl came home with a stone “as small as a world and as large as alone.” The poet intends to suggest that the girl
left the beach early to bring home a trivial thing.
ignored the real beauty of the ocean in favor of shore objects.
reflected on the whole world and her feelings while viewing the stone.
tried to preserve things while the other girls did not.
2. Which of the following BEST interprets the meaning of “maggie and milly and molly and may”?
A day at the beach is only a waste of time.
The seashore is a place of rediscovery.
Friends don’t always enjoy the same pursuits.
It is easy to make new friends at the beach.
3. When the speaker in “Astonishment” considers her life after “many epochs of absence,” she means
that she has been away a long time.
that when she dies she is gone forever.
that she was not here in all time before her life.
that her life has been a long story of loneliness.
4. The word stout has more than one meaning. Two of its meanings are
thick and loud.
courageous and violent.
loyal and uneducated.
sturdy and brave.
5. Which of the following sentences uses the correct punctuation for a parenthetical expression?
The poets of course, feel strongly, about their topics.
Stephanie, my sister, just won a poetry prize.
It is, difficult I think, to translate poetry into different languages.
However it is important, to read poetry, from other cultures.
6. Which of the following is NOT commonly used as a parenthetical expression?
in so far as
by the way
in my opinion

| • PLEASE READ. NEED NEED NEED help/advice. School/depression? |
|
I'll try not to make this long but PLEASE bare with me and read it all, I have to summarize everything so you can fully understand the situation.
I've never liked going to school.
I stayed out as often as could during Elementary and Middle school.
The Middle school and High school I go to are part of the same system.
I would stay out about twice a school week on average.
I got bad grades in Middle School but they passed me on because they said I was smart enough to do the work, it was just a matter of doing it and staying back wouldn't help me.
Summer before 9th grade, my friend convinced me to take some anti-depression pills for fun. I took too many (about a 2-day dose in two hours) and my vision starting going weird and I panicked and felt like I was going to die.
I didn't tell my mother until a few weeks later, because my eyesight hadn't felt the same since then. It left me feeling like reality would break but in the back of my mind I wasn't sure whether something was wrong or the whole experience had just scared me and was making me think I had messed something up with myself.
Combine this with the fact that I hate school anyway, I'd already suffered from depression and it was just a bad situation.
I stayed out 28 days in my first trimester. That's a third of the trimester. I sunk into the deepest depression of my life. Crying for most of the day. Wanting to move but not wanting a big change that I felt I couldn't handle.
My counselor was AWFUL and viewed me as this kid manipulating my parents with a fake illness because I was lazy and filled a Child in need of services report...something that could potentially have gotten me place in foster care.
I was so scared about my eyes still, that I told my doctors about the pills. My doctors were in contact with my school and viewed me from then as some lying kid trying to get medication or something, or at least that's the way I felt with them. Both the counselor and doctors were all, "are you being abused or hit?" And I said no, because that's not true AT ALL.
I went through MRI and EEG tests but they found nothing physically wrong with my head so they suggested psychiatric testing.
I postponed the testing or getting a therapist because my moods weren't really stable. Sometimes my depression would subside and I'd feel GREAT for a few weeks and so I kept on putting off getting a therapist.
The last trimester of Freshman year I got some solid B+'s, and C+'s. Compare that to my earlier grades of D's and F's.
Then, first trimester of this year, I stayed under the absence limit and got A+'s and B+'s. I had good classes. Good lunches. Good friends. I still hated waking up and going to school everyday and I still dreaded it but it was easier.
Throughout my hard times in freshman year, one thing that kept me from being suicidal and not changing school was my friends. Now, all my friends at my school are not talking to me anymore. Combine that with my horrible classes, and having to now eat lunch in the library because I have no one to sit with at lunch. I also get more depressed in the winter anyway.
I've been trying to hold myself back from this sudden loss of my entire social network. It's easy for me to make acquaintances and I'm not totally shy but it's hard for me to find true friends who I call a lot and hang out with outside of school.
I've been trying to hold myself back from being sad.
But going to school everyday is hell.
I hate myself.
I hate the building.
I have the people.
I feel worthless.
During vacation, I felt okay.
Sad sometimes.
For an hour I felt so positive, SO confident, like I could do anything.
And then it subsided and I felt so low and started crying.
I've sunken into the deep, dark hole of absences again.
Today I stayed out, setting me over the absence limit for a trimester.
I talked with my mother, I need a therapist soon, and I've told her this.
I've spoken with her about possibly changing schools, I have no friends to keep me at my current school anymore.
But I'm also just thinking, if I do indeed end up needing medication, I'm worried my doctor's office won't beileve me.
i don't know anymore
what to do
ps i go to a big public high school with like 1,700 people
Thank you to those who replied, I really appreciate it.
To the girl who said if I haven't found a friend in my school of 1,700, I'm just not trying hard enough...I don't really know if I agree with you.
I try hard. I just feel like I'm sort of going into myself more and more. Sometimes I feel so drained and it's hard enough just to get through the day let alone force being really social with people. It's not as though I'm an obviously outcast person and I'm not bullied or anything.
responding to an answer: Well, no, I'm just thinking my doctors will be suspicious if I come to them being like "ohhh my therapists thinks i should starts taking so and so medication" or something. I don't know.
There are other schools around here, yes.
Private schools...alternative schools.
Or home schooling.
I'm just really bad with doing things like moving or changing schools.
++I don't know how being home-school or going to an "alternative school" would affect me with college.
Also, I'm not old enough to drop out. I turn 16 on the 28th of July this year.
I've always been under the impression GED's are worthless, but I don't know how true that impression is.
Also home-schooling might lead to further isolation.

| • Take a stab at this short piece? |
|
Moon through a Quickly Fogging Window
I. Shadow Puppets
Everything else tonight
is arrayed and accounted for
before me;
but you
complicate my
subjective cosmology.
Do you mock me
because of my soul
being only shadows?
We were laughing together
at that phantom
who remains
though you have gone…
I had forgotten
the source
of these fluttering shadows.
In fact, you are superfluous
Except you are the undeniable
and fluid mother
of all my shadows.
Oh, why has no one told you?
Absence is but the mot des temps
II. Prologue
Damned Actaeon,
Click clicking across the back yard
Cluttered with the onomatopoeic
Castoffs of childhood;
Irreverently stumbling through
The sandbox, bumping
your shin against a dumptruck
Horny old man, no one wants to hear
You squealing
“I was wronged…”

|
I have been playing EuphRO for about 2 years now, I recently quit about a year ago. In my absence my friend decided to delete my character and my stuff when he came to quit. Of course the GM's can't replace my account or my stuff since my friends IP address has been prominently recorder for a year.
I don't feel like starting over especially now since the servers population has decreased.
So does anyone have any accounts on EuphRo they do not want or are not in use and would not mind donating them to me.....for me to keep...forever lol.
Thanks for your time everyone, feel free to email me your username and password, I would really appreciate it.

| • Small Claims questions, can you help??? Orange County California? |
|
I'm taking a company to small claims. I can't locate the person in charge of the company. I was told the owner is located out of state, but when I called I was just given a name of the person in charge in the owners absence. Who do I take to court? The actual company, or the person in charge? or both? I know for a fact that the owner is out of state and had left her son in charge, but now he's no longer there and someone else is claiming to be in charge. This company owes me money, and the owner's son made the original arrangement with me to pay me back, but has stopped making payments to me. Please help
I went to the Secratery of State web site to see if this was a corporation, LLC, but nothing came up. I filed the small claim as XYZ person dba, XYZ company. The sheriff's dept. tried to serve the person and he's managed to avoid being served. My next step was trying to find out who is in charge there. I was given a name of a different person because all of a suddent the owner's son seems to me MIA. I guess my next question is do I refile under the person who claims to be in charge now? dba XYZ company? I'm confused because she is not the person who made the original payment arrangement with me, but she's claiming to be in charge now.

here is the poem link

Which of these are true of Donne's poems?
Check all that apply.
(Points: 2)
Most were written in blank verse.
It is not known for certain what Donne's intended title for "A Valediction: Forbidding Mourning" was.
They were written in the Neoclassical tradition.
The specific wording of his poems varied from one manuscript to another.
2. Consider the following lines from the first stanza of the poem:
As virtuous men pass mildly away,
And whisper to their souls to go,
Whilst some of their sad friends do say,
"The breath goes now," and some say, "No."
In these lines, why do the "virtuous men" "whisper to their souls to go" (that is, why do they seem unafraid to die)?
(Points: 2)
They fear that their souls will remain on Earth.
They don't want to be a burden to their friends.
They know they are too weak to live.
They know their souls are going to heaven.
3. Consider the following lines from the first stanzas of the poem:
As virtuous men pass mildly away,
And whisper to their souls to go,
Whilst some of their sad friends do say,
"The breath goes now," and some say, "No,"
So let us melt, and make no noise
What is the narrator trying to communicate here when he says "So let us melt"?
(Points: 2)
He's saying that the lovers should cling to each other and "melt" into an emotional farewell.
He's saying that the lovers' parting is a kind of death, and should be avoided.
He's saying that he and his lover's parting should be like that of virtuous men and their souls.
All of these are possible interpretations of these lines.
4. Consider the second stanza of the poem:
So let us melt, and make no noise,
No tear-floods, nor sigh-tempests move;
'Twere profanation of our joys
To tell the laity our love.
Which line is a reference to clichés commonly seen in Elizabethan love poetry?
(Points: 2)
So let us melt, and make no noise
To tell the laity our love
No tear-floods, nor sigh-tempests move
'Twere profanation of our joys
5. Consider the third stanza of the poem:
Moving of the earth brings harms and fears,
Men reckon what it did and meant;
But trepidation of the spheres,
Though greater far, is innocent.
Which of the following best summarizes the point the narrator makes in this passage?
(Points: 2)
Though the heavens are far from us, they can exert a strong influence on what happens on Earth, including causing earthquakes.
Earthquakes can cause a lot of damage.
Things bound to the material world are of lesser power, but are more subject to harm and fear than things that exist outside it.
Like the spheres, the "trepidation" of love revolves around the lovers as though they were planets and shakes them as an earthquake shakes the Earth.
6. Consider the fourth stanza of the poem:
Dull sublunary lovers' love
(Whose soul is sense) cannot admit
Absence, because it doth remove
Those things which elemented it.
Which word in this passage suggests that the love discussed here would be impermanent?
(Points: 2)
Dull
Sense
Elemented
Sublunary
7. Consider the fifth stanza of the poem:
But we, by a love so much refined
That our selves know not what it is,
Inter-assured of the mind,
Care less, eyes, lips, and hands to miss.
Which of these lines introduces the idea that the lovers are connected spiritually as opposed to physically?
(Points: 2)
That our selves know not what it is
Care less, eyes, lips, and hands to miss
Inter-assured of the mind
But we, by a love so much refined
8. Consider the sixth stanza of the poem:
Our two souls therefore, which are one,
Though I must go, endure not yet
A breach, but an expansion.
Like gold to airy thinness beat.
What is the paradox expressed in this passage?
(Points: 2)
The lovers' love is simultaneously wrong and right.
The lovers' parting is simultaneously a separation and a breach.
The lovers' parting is simultaneously a separation and an expansion.
The lovers' parting is simultaneously a greeting and a farewell.
9. Consider the last stanzas of the poem:
If they be two, they are two so
As stiff twin compasses are two:
Thy soul, the fixed foot, makes no show
To move, but doth, if the other do;
And though it in the center sit,
Yet when the other far doth roam,
It leans, and hearkens after it,
And grows erect, as that comes home.
Such wilt thou be to me, who must,
Like the other foot, obliquely run;
Thy firmness makes my circle just,
And makes me end where I
please let me know if my answers are right.

Its just like a Dr Seuss book IE the cover, artwork etc, its about a king testing his three sons to see if they would be able to run his kingdom in his absence, he locks them in a room to test them, they put ink on their cheeks, small dots so the guards think they are sick, the guards let them out and they pass the test. HELP!

| • Boyfriend work ethics....? |
|
I love my boyfriend alot but his work ethics have much to be desired. I've had 5 jobs in the last 8 years (3 of those in the last 6 years since graduating). He has had about 20 and has been fired by a few for various reasons including excessive absences. At his current job he slacks off all the time. He has even slept on the job a few times. He has the mentality "they get what they pay for". I find that rediculous. Yes he is working and I should be glad he has been able to hold down this job for well over a year but it just bothers me. Should this worry me or is it something that I should let go? We are talking about moving in together when my lease is up (we will have been together a year) and I'm scared that one day he is going to get fired for doing something stupid.
He says its not just him, its his entire department. I know that is true cause I have met his for lunch and there are 7 or 8 guys "hiding" just talking. To me its like the phrase "if your friend jumped off the cliff would you?" but he just doesn't get it.
Not sure if it matters but I'm 24 & he is 27

| • How do I approach my Boss about a leave of absence? |
|
I have been at my full-time job for 5 years, and I am also a part time College Student.
I have the opportunity to spend the summer abroad for school. I want to go to Ireland or Germany and I earn College Credit at the same time. The program is 4-5 weeks and I have 1 week of paid vacation to use toward the time off.
I like my job and want to keep it, but this is also an opportunity of a lifetime.
How can I approach my Boss about asking for so much time off?

| • Persuasive speech on final exam exemptions for seniors? |
|
I'm trying to write this speech on why our seniors who have earned a 90% or better each marking period, have no more than 3 absences per semester, no disciplinary infractions, and have earned Proficient or better on the PSSA's (our standardized test in PA) should not be required to take final exams. Anyone have any suggestions for more criteria or supporting points? So far I've come up with:
- encourages seniors to keep working hard all year instead of cramming in the last week of June
- encourages good attendance, good behavior, and decent effort on the PSSAs (which bring in money for our school)
- allow them to focus on finals they do need to study for (e.g.: instead of studying for an English class they already have a 98% in, they can spend that time studying Chemistry where they have an 85%)
Any help you can offer is much appreciated! Also, I'm already locked into this topic so please don't tell me why we shouldn't exempt them :)

| • should i take the boring comparative studies class? |
|
usually i check ratemyprof for info about the teacher & if i will succeed, learn, or be bored out of my mind in the classroom. my main goal is just to get an A. i care about learning, but the A comes first.
i have no info on this teacher, they have only been teaching at my school for 3 years. i tried looking and asking but no body knows a thing. it is a comparative studies class. before going in today i didn't even know what that meant. i guess it is the study of the mind and novels. she has a thick accent and is kinda boring, however she seems pretty nice and is letting us come in at 840 instead of 810 - but i think that's just because she has to take her kids to school.
she told me that the quizzes are basically to check if we have read the novels, that is 40% of our grade. just questions like "what was the book about.." etc. 7 quizzes.
it is a lot of reading
she is boring but nice (already mentioned)
i asked about extra credit and she said she never did that b/c no body has ever asked or been interested
we have to read about 3 novels..... each quiz covers about 80-100 pages
the rest of everything are films and memoirs.........
midterm is a essay
so is the final exam
no grade for absence but i'll go in anyway because i don't like missing class, even though its very early.......
would you take the class? i can usually read people very well and know if i want to take the class but the class is like a psych class and you can never truly know what psych teachers are thinking since they know most of the tricks of the trade. lol

| • My 16.5mo will turn his head while looking out of the corner's of his eyes - seizures or something else? |
|
He has been doing this from time to time for a few months now, and it never lasts more than say, half a minute. Some days he does it several times, other days not at all. He looks like he isn't really there while he does it.
For example, this evening I was holding him in my arms, trying to get his attention by saying his name, and there he went... turning his head from side to side with his pupils rolled into the corners of his eyes. I've read that this could be absence(sp?) seizures, but I was wondering whether it could be something else, or whether maybe he actually is doing it on purpose (it seems like he isn't).

| • Problem with PowerBook G3 battery? |
|
I bought a PowerBook G3 (Wall street II) with 266 mHz, it had 4GB i switched it with a 40GB and upgraded memory to 256MB. When I tried to start the computer a floppy disk with a "?" appeared. I did some research and concluded the problem to be the absence of a OS. I then ordered Mac OS 10.2. (Jaguar) but then after my cd-drive recognized the disk and the white apple logo appeared the screen dimmed dramatically. Barley visible and my mouse would not work. I then ordered Mac OS 9.0 and 9.2.1. I put the disk in and It started to install and the screen looked fine but then after maybe 3 minutes into the installation it stopped and shown a low battery picture i believe and turned off then the power button blinked on and off. Then I took out the rechargeable battery to the bottom left of my Wall street and tried to turn on the computer It got up to the same point this time the battery sign had a big "X" on it. and the power button blinked again after a few minutes through installation. Quick question is the battery dead since i cant start the computer without having the ac adapter in? and the only one of 5 charge lights turn on when I push the button on the rechargeable battery. Can u give me some advice, anything is welcomed.

| • Is Obama going to be George Bush III? |
|
source: http://www.lewrockwell.com/gutzman/gutzman18.html
The 2003 invasion of Iraq was sold to the public at the time as being justified in part by Iraqi dictator Saddam Hussein’s possession of weapons of mass destruction and his harboring of al Qaeda terrorists. In the wake of the Bush Administration’s 2003 invasion of Iraq, word leaked out that several prominent figures around Bush long had wanted to invade Iraq; for them, 9/11 was the perfect cover, and the WMD and al Qaeda arguments mere window dressing. By the time the world knew the justifications were false, Iraq had been conquered and Saddam had been removed.
President-elect Barack Obama now says that he is going to reverse the current course of the US economy. This contraction, largely the result of the popping of the Fed-induced housing bubble, would come to a natural end in a matter of months anyway. That’s how the market works: if there is a government-induced binge, the fever breaks and the patient can return to health.
But the average American has been brought up to believe that good economic times are the results of proper government policy, and that bad times result from its absence. Like some 18th-century physician with a bag full of leaches, knives, glasses, purgatives, and emetics to leach, bleed, burn, and blister a sick man before inducing diarrhea and making him vomit, government hovers over the American economy, eager to make him sick in the name of restoring his health.
We have seen the same scenario play out many times in American history. The finest medical care available in America killed poor George Washington in 1799, and the latest economic voodoo caused the recession of 1929 to last a decade and one-half.
When finally the government laid off the taxpayer and the business owner in 1945, the US economy boomed. What a remarkable example of statesmanship! The lesson historians drew was that not only was Franklin Roosevelt, the bleeder and blisterer who had stretched the previous recession to seven times the normal length of an American recession, a great statesman, but so was Harry Truman!
Barack Obama, it seems, wants to be judged in the same way. His soon-to-be-predecessor, George W. Bush, has emulated Herbert Hoover in responding to the current contraction with a spate of inapt federal measures: nearly $1,000,000,000,000 in handouts of newly-printed dollars to US banks and insurance companies have yielded no discernable result. In fact, federal "oversight" appears to have been totally absent, as the same inept colossi whose institutions tottered on the brink of insolvency before this great looting of the taxpayer now claim not to know where the money went.
What to make of this? Why, that more of it is "needed," of course. Thus, $17,000,000,000 was handed over by Bush and his minions to insolvent American automobile manufacturers. No moral, philosophical, or constitutional justification of handing, say, GM – with a current value of –$60B (that is, negative sixty billion dollars) – a few billion was even attempted. No one said how this "loan" would make the great Midwestern dinosaur solvent. Why not? My prognostication? Because it won’t.
All this "act of statesmanship" has done is keep GM in business so that GM can demand more money from the government in a few months. And more a few months after that. And more a few months after that.
The calculations here are almost entirely those of brute politics. GM is "too big to fail." That is, its unions control so many votes that they, like plains-state senators demanding agricultural subsidies, can twist this gift out of the taxpayer. Comes word now that the steel companies are lining up at the trough. Surely the paleoconservatives will muster the same arguments in their favor as served so well in the case of the Big Three: great countries manufacture their own steel; steel workers are highly paid; some of them were navy SEALs; my sister doesn’t want her husband to lose his job at the steel plant; and (the only one that really matters) if the Republicans don’t join the Democrats in this measure, highly organized and politically mobilized steel workers will vote Democratic forevermore.
I predicted that the Big Three would get our money. I predict that other decrepit industries will follow.
AIG spent part of its federal gift on lavish retreats for senior executives. Chrysler put some of its taxpayer "loan" into advertising to "thank" taxpayers. This obscenity was rather akin to Stalin "thanking" the kulaks for their land.
Barack Obama just announced that he plans to have the federal government resolve the economic problem in part by "modernizing" libraries and offering tax reductions to "workers." The library gambit is all about pork-barrel politics: every substantial community has a library, and so a measure like that will mean a federal expenditure in every congressman’s district. Since the early nineteenth-century days of Henry Clay (Pat Buchanan’s
here's the rest of the article:
Since the early nineteenth-century days of Henry Clay (Pat Buchanan’s hero), greasing the skids that way has been part of the art of buying votes. No need to explain how expropriating money from its owner to purchase a new rug or computer for a library helps the economy.
Since the early nineteenth-century days of Henry Clay (Pat Buchanan’s hero), greasing the skids that way has been part of the art of buying votes. No need to explain how expropriating money from its owner to purchase a new rug or computer for a library helps the economy.
Tax reductions to "workers," in classic Keynesian analysis, are a wonderful way to address economic contraction because "workers" (that is, unskilled employees) tend to spend a higher proportion of their income than the more affluent. Obama’s conclusion, then, is that America, with virtually the world’s lowest rate of savings, suffers at present from too much savings and too little spending. He wants to reduce the savings rate even further. This is what Keynesianism has given us: gigantic debt and ever-declining savings, despite the fact that everyone knows that societal investment (read: savings) is necessary to heighten the future standard of living.
The Clay platform was based chiefly on the idea of "internal improvements," meaning federal financing of roads and bridges throughout the country. Again, if roads were built throughout the country with money provided by the Federal Government, locals would see the wonderful benefit of supporting Henry Clay. Obama understands this perfectly well.
Like the Feiths and Abramses, the Cheneys and Wolfowitzes, and like George W. Bush himself wanting war with Iraq and seizing on the first excuse that came to hand, Obama has been handed a perfect cover for doing what he was disposed to do all along. An orgy of public spending outstripping even the super-profligate Bush’s was the desire of the leftward-most senator before the contraction, and he can justify it with economic bunk now.
As CNN.com reports, "Economists from across the political spectrum agree that if we don't act swiftly and boldly, we could see a much deeper economic downturn," Obama said. "That's why we need an American Recovery and Reinvestment Plan that not only creates jobs in the short-term but spurs economic growth and competitiveness in the long-term."
But "economists from across the political spectrum" do not "agree." Keynesians and Chicago School monetarists who slathered credit for the bubble on Allan Greenspan and failed to predict its popping, which they still find inexplicable, agree. Austrian School economists who castigated Greenspan during the bubble, forecast the current contraction, and see worse to come as a result of the government’s response, disagree. Vehemently.
But, as one of the Austrians recently said, "Being right is overrated." They are now in the position of the bystander who cannot reach the child in time to push him out of the way of the bus. Obama has adopted Bill Clinton’s tactic of referring to all government spending as "investment," but his taxing and borrowing to pay for wasteful government programs will only make matters worse.
The American economy is like big, healthy George Washington that fateful day in 1799. How much quackery will the government inflict?
Reduced saving means reduced future standard of living. Heightened government spending means reduced saving. Taking money from the politically weak to give it to the strong is King John’s model of government. And George Bush’s. And Barack Obama’s.
In recent days, some paleoconservatives have labeled observations such as these "ideological," people who object to the Big Three Rip-off "ideologues." Was Robin Hood an "ideologue"? Was King John a "statesman"?
There is still time for Obama to decide that unlike the second Bush, he is not going to follow King John in taking money from everyone else for the benefit of the well connected. He can still refuse to follow Bush in exploiting others’ misery for his own ideological ends. The signs are not promising.

Saw Jonathan L's question and have been wondering the same thing myself. What exactly is his job? We have not seen hide nor hair of the man since he took up this very lucrative post. MEP's earn serious money, just what on earth is he doing? So far as I am aware no comments, no negotiations, absolutely nothing. The man is conspicuous by his absence. Has he fallen asleep for the past few months in his Private Club? Anyone out there know if he is actually doing anything apart from receiving his extremely large pay packet?
Hi Jonathan - just read the links. Well better late than never. So someone actually woke him up and told him to earn his beans!

| • Winky Wright vs Paul Williams? |
|
There is a proposed match between both, so who do you think will win considering Winky's long absence from boxing?
Also why do some people say this will be a boring fight? Winky is perhaps one of the better Boxers today very great technical boxer with great defense and Paul Williams is the most feared man in the welterweight division (Margarito doesn't want the rematch) Will it be a boring fight? (I think it will not be boring)
Their fight will be at 160 lbs. Middleweight.

| • Weird rash on my penis, Can anyone help? PLEASE? |
|
Just recently my girlfriend of 6months started taking the Pill, and so; on new-years we had sex without a condom. Because of the absence of the condom my foreskin was stretched back a lot more than usual, this didn't hurt at the time but afterwards it really did. The head of my penis was really sore, today i was in the bathroom after a masturbation session and realized i had quite a red rash on the head of my penis. Its quite itchy and uncomfortable but not painful, nor is it painful when i urinate. I heard it could be just the fact that its a bit worn out, as it were. Anyone got any ideas, i will probably go to a doctor soonish but its quite irritating. Has anyone got any remedies? Btw i am 16. And i am quite new to sex.

| • Ok, so the Universe is supposedly 400 billion years old....? |
|
Which means, it's been expanding for the past 400 billion years. And (hypothetically) we can only see 400 billion years out...so my question is what is beyond that? Of course scientists have been studying this for years, but I wanna hear what the people say. I mean it's like...oblivion--and black, because that's the absence of all wavelengths. But is it really physically for there to be absolute, well, nothingness?
By the way who manufactured the Corsair and the SR-71A Blackbird?
Wait the Blackbird is Lockheed & Martin...wait no it's not, that's the Concorde....
And by the way could you explain all this on an 11 year old level?
well however old it is that's just how far we can "see"

I go to sleep at around 9:00pm and don't wake up until 10:00am... I have about 5 alarms that are as loud as they come and I still can't wake up. I have about 14 absences in my first period class, so if this is a disorder, what's the name of it?

| • Dream about accidentally finding myself on a movie set...? |
|
I dont remember too much, but I remember some general scenarios.
More about the title a little bit later...
1. One of my friends was having 30-minute relationships. She would plow through boys and her emotions like how the cookie monster goes through cookies.
2. I found myself on a school campus(again, having lots of these school dreams), and found out that I missed the homeroom scheduling change and went to the wrong class. First absence on first day. I went outside, and there was a film set, in the middle of shooting.
3. The school had a drive-thru cafeteria where the entryway was too small for my car to drive through.
4. I went to a store to buy some plastic/acrylic samples, and when I cut some samples for me to take home, I was stopped and asked to pay. I remember not having to pay for samples before and tried to explain to them, but they wouldnt let me take them home. Not willing to buy, I left the store, and found myself on a movie set. The only way I could tell was that the street was empty, hushed, and there were people holding lights and various film set paraphernalia in the background. I realized that I must have messed up their shot, but was surprised to see that they kept shooting the film, and the director probably decided to use me as an extra. I wanted to flee the scene and walked into a little corner, hidden from view.
There were at least 2 or 3 instance where I walked onto an ongoing shoot for a movie. This last instance is the most clear to me. In all instances, my reaction was one of shock, embarrassment, and self-scolding for doing such a thing(even unknowingly) as well as the question "why don't they block doorways if they're shooting a movie???", and my first action was to try and flee the scene. Whats surprising was that I was never kicked off myself, and was usually "written in" as an extra.
Any ideas? Any ideas on the other points in the dream would be well appreciated, too.

| • Suggestions on improving air quality ? |
|
I live in a pretty small, stuffy university residence room [which is also relatively dark :( ] and the air quality is really bad. Every time I walked in after absence for a while, I noticed the air is almost "suffocating" with a certain mold smell; which I can't get rid of ( even after febreze air effects) It feels like; there's heavy cologne 24/7, instead of air.
I have gotten really sick repetitively. I don't usually open the window since its too cold (we have alot of snow here*) and I'm on first floor. I have the heater on max. alot. My room door is facing directly at the washroom; and the washroom smells awful usually ; in fact, it smells nearly the same in my room when I walk in.
There's like absolutely no circulation in my room; so it feels likes there is no fresh air at all.
What can I do?
Should I open windows actually?
Should I have a fan on 24/7?
Should I turn the heater on low?

| • Failed 2 or 3 classes. Help please? |
|
Alright, So I am a senior in high school right now and I have been really stupid.. I always did good in school when it didn't matter, such as middle school and such up to about sophomore year. Sophomore year I decided to take Chemistry honors, a high class for junior and seniors, without taking physical science and I ended up failing it. This year, my senior year, I began to make stupid decisions, not only that but I lost my uncle to cancer, and am putting up with major stress because my parents are being laid off of their jobs and taking it out on me, I lost my job.. So I am now failing two classes because of absences and such...That equals 3 classes failing.. Sorry it is so long, but my question is... I have searched to see how many credits you need for high school, or easier, if I fail 3 classes, is it over for me? Is there any hope or must I retake the 12 grade...
Any help would be appreciated, I know I have been really stupid, so honest criticism is okay, but I have endured much and am not sure what I can do...
Sincerely, Benny
Thanks everyone, I think all of your answers are the best. I shall try that.. I just have made alot of dumb decisions but I will pick myself up. Thank you all!
